Rita and Rudolf Trossen are pioneers of biodynamic viticulture and were among the first German winemakers to produce wine without added sulphites. They started making wine in 1978 in Kinheim-Kindel in the Mosel region, farming 2 hectares of vineyards planted with old, ungrafted vines. Rita was determined that they should run a small-scale operation in order to maintain a high level of quality and care, and to this day the winery functions with a small team and outstanding wines.
Pinot Pur 2021 is the first time that Trossen have made a négoce wine, using organic grapes from a limestone vineyard in Perl. 2021 was an extremely challenging year with mildew and an infestation of Drosophila suzukii (Suzikii fly) resulting in very low yields, forcing numerous winemakers to find alternative solutions to sustain their livelihood. The result is this great combination of Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris with a very small amount of Trossen’s own Riesling, aged completely in steel with zero additives. This is certainly not a typical Trossen wine, but is nevertheless delicious, with a fresh, clean and juicy pineapple vibe.
