Alanna LaGamba moved from Toronto to Berlin in her mid-twenties, a Canadian with Italian roots and a love of natural wine. While working in a restaurant in Toronto, she started catching the overnight bus to NYC in search of more natural wines — the beginning of an exciting journey. Moving to Europe gave Alanna the chance to immerse herself in the world of wine and it was in Berlin that she met winemaker Martin Wörner. Keen to see more of Germany, Alanna signed up for harvest 2018 at Martin’s winery in Flonheim and, in her words, never really left. She moved there permanently a year later, having fallen in love with the countryside, the wines, and Martin himself. In keeping with her independent nature and contagious optimism, it wasn’t long before Alanna wanted to make her own wines. Her love of bubbles and Italian heritage inspired her to create a German take on Lambrusco, and with it the birth of Frauenpower.
Frauenpower Vol. 5 is the 2023 vintage and a wine with both concentration and complexity. 80% Dornfelder and 20% Silvaner, with the majority of the Silvaner direct pressed to extract fewer tannins. Blended together, the result is a fresh, light red with big bubbles and deep redcurrant notes. Chill it right down to around 7° and enjoy with meringue and mixed berries.
