Alsace

The Kamm estate is made up of 6.5 hectares of vineyards in Dambach-la-Ville, a fortified town on the picturesque Alsace wine route. This area, on the eastern slopes of the Vosges mountains, is renowned for its terroir, and almost all of Eric Kamm’s wines are characterised by the granite soils found here. Eric took over the family winery in 2005 and immediately began to make big changes, converting the vineyards to organic farming and developing a style of wines that differed significantly from those made by his father, Jean-Louis. He also introduced a series of labels inspired by Dragon Ball — a big fan of Japanese graphic novels when he was younger, Eric teamed up with tattoo artist and friend, Roukin Tattoo, to create distinctive designs for his bottles. The vineyards lie 500 metres above sea level; different parcels of volcanic granite planted with Pinot Gris, Riesling, Auxerrois, Muscat, Gewürztraminer and lots of Pinot Noir. Eric lets the terroir speak for itself, working with small, manageable yields.

Fusion ’23 comes from two different sites; a granite hillside and a century-old plot planted on loamy soil composed of sand, silt and clay. These older vines were planted by Eric’s grandfather, their roots reaching deep into the complexities of the soil. The grapes were harvested and pressed at the same time, before vinification in stainless steel and nine months on the lees. The granite gives this wine straightness, minerality and acidity, along with the lemony vibe typical of this variety, while the silt aspect adds more backbone and power, making it a great match for spicy chicken and coriander. Drink chilled.
