Karambolage is a blend of wines from 2021 - 2024, a wine that helps to make up for the losses of the 2024 vintage. A ‘changing chameleon’ from year to year, this version combines the magic of four vintages and different grape varieties. Chardonnay and Elbling are accompanied by Pinot Gris, the skin contact of the Pinot giving a rosé colour. Lightly aromatic and with medium structure, this is a serious wine, perfect for summer. Aged in small oak barrels with a minimal amount of sulfur. Enjoy chilled.
In Kaja’s words, Elbling is a diva. It’s well-suited to cool climate regions and has been grown in the Mosel for over 2000 years but today, less than 5% of vineyards in Luxembourg are planted with it. The delicate skins of the grapes make it difficult to farm, but they yield high juice and minerality. Roche Liquide, liquid rock, shows what this ancient variety is capable of. The grapes were harvested from 45 year old vines, rooted deep in limestone, and pressed in whole bunches before aging in 70% stainless steel and a single, 300l old oak barrel, spending a full year on the lees. Mineral and with high acidity, it’s great with sushi, oysters, or white fish. Only 1345 bottles made.
Bayerischer Bodensee Rot 2023 is fruit-driven, juicy, and vibrant; a medium bodied red with low tannins to enjoy lightly chilled in summer. The grapes, Pinotin and Cabertin, are rigorously sorted — selected by hand at the moment of picking, again on a sorting table in the vineyard, and for a third time when they reach the winery — a process which ensures that only the best fruit reaches the press. In 2023, 70% of the grapes were left as whole bunches, macerated cold for around eight days and pressed once the tannin extraction had reached the desired level. Fermentation was finished in 228 litre barriques, where the wine stayed on its full lees for 20 months before bottling with a minimal amount of sulfur. Bursting with blackcurrant notes and a touch of blackberry, this is a great wine to drink alongside grilled, red bell peppers, tahini, roasted hazelnuts, and anything with ras el hanout.
