Aoltbeer is the historical sour ale of Münster. This particular edition from Kemker has been a firm favourite with us at Off Grid over the past months; refreshing and with high acidity, it’s best enjoyed chilled as a thirst-quencher on a hot day. The beers in this blend were matured for around 12 months in red wine barrels and this, combined with the addition of organic rhubarb, gives it a touch of fruit and a wine-like character. Bottled in December ’22, 900 bottles made.
Grand Ordinaire 2023 is made with 100%, whole cluster, Pinot Noir. After carbonic maceration for 12 days it is aged two thirds in stainless steel, a third in barrel, and bottled after 8 months with around 15 mg/l of SO2 added. Strawberry meets red currant juice in this easy-going but refined light red. Drink chilled.
This rosé is a great example of how fresh and juicy the wines from Keuper can be. Pinot Noir, Domina and Dornfelder grapes from 37 years old vines are direct pressed and left for 9 months on the lees in old oak barrels. 2023 was a hot, dry year but, with a bit of rain in August, the grapes at harvest were in great condition and had reached a perfect ripeness. Similar to the previous vintage but with more juice and power, Rosé ’23 is best enjoyed chilled alongside a hearty dish of paella.
