Carrousel de Tête: where wine meets design. Frederic and his wife Simone are the driving force of this small winery, with a graphic design studio on the Deutsche Weinstraße in Pfalz. Surrounded by winemaking for years, they found their own tiny plot in 2018, already planted with 30 year old vines. Meeting Fred, the creativity and playfulness that runs throughout his work suddenly makes sense. Charismatic and full of smiles, his energy is infectious. With the support of family and friends he and Simone grow Silvaner, Riesling and Portugieser, using these grapes to make their own wines. Carrousel de Tête also make négoce wines as well as small, collaborative projects with fellow winemakers. This year saw the release of collab wines made with the Seckinger brothers and Lukas Hammelmann in the Palatinate region. Needless to say, the labels are all designed with the creative flair of Fred’s studio.

Orange 2022 is made with approximately 50/50 Muskateller and Scheurebe from a friend’s vineyard, harvested together and fermented on the skins for around 14-16 days. 20% was aged for 6 months in small, used old Jack Daniel’s barriques, with the rest in fiberglass. 10% Riesling was added at bottling to give the wine juiciness and acidity. An aromatic, well-structured orange wine with a light bitterness and an excellent partner for grilled peaches and goats’ cheese. Beautiful from the bottle, but also fun to experiment with in a decanter. Enjoy at 12-14°.
